Magic & Mind Games: Getting Through School Alive!
September 2008
"A unique interactive presentation."
"If you want to get and keep the attention of your athletes while alcohol awareness messages are delivered, this is a good program."
"John Fabjance's presentation includes audience participation with comedy, magic, music, and video. John explains and demonstrates denial, rationalization, enabling, peer pressure, and making good choices with student volunteers and his own special brand of magic and humor."
"When he pickpockets students' watches, John shows everyone just how vulnerable they are. He also explains how students can be vulnerable when advertisers try to trick them with hidden persuaders in their commercials to encourage young people to drink more. Movies and TV also help create false myths of heavy drinking on campuses nationwide which can negatively affect the expectations and attitudes of incoming freshman athletes."
"Compared to some of the physiological presentations we have attempted on this subject, John’s was more subtle in message and much more entertaining in delivery."
- Kerry Prather,
Director of Athletics,
Head Men's Basketball Coach,
Franklin College
"Thanks
for your excellent program. This was one of the most outstanding and enlightening
alcohol awareness programs that we've had. Again, thanks for a valuable
and entertaining day."

Student
Athletes have special needs. Many times they have to deal with additional
demands and pressures such as training schedules, pressure to perform,
study & class demands, stress over planning their futures, etc. These
and other stress factors can make your athletes vulnerable to poor decision
making and risky behavior--particularly when it comes to alcohol and drug
use.
John's programs use tools like magic to demonstrate
to your students how mind games such as denial, enabling, rationalization,
and others affect our thinking, judgment, and decisions. Once people become
aware of how we all fool ourselves in these ways, it's easier for them
to rethink their relationship with alcohol, drugs or other risky behavior.
Most importantly, John's programs are educational and
fun. Students really relate to John and listen
intently, because he's not lecturing them or preaching to them. Instead
they relax and participate in the program, enjoying themselves while learning
at the same time.
